Introduction

The Council Department in charge of Education, Training and Labour Policies of Regione Veneto, in co-operation with the SUV (Italian initials for University System of Veneto) has promoted and committed to implementing this interactive information tool needed to evaluate university entrance requirements, always bearing in mind the necessary advice and guidance to be given to students during their career of study, as provided for by the new university reform (MIUR Decree No 509/99).

This project aims to reduce the number of students abandoning university studies while increasing the 'transit speed' as well as the number of young graduates to be introduced to the world of the employment. Therefore, special attention is paid to the guidance and counselling activity that is greatly and increasingly emphasised in all Italian universities, particularly those in Veneto. The successful choice of a young qualified student wishing to enrol at the university mainly depends on the following two factors:

  • passing of the admission test in case of planned-number faculties;
  • possession of a proper foundation of cultural, cognitive, aptitude requirements and skills.

This 'university self-evaluation web portal' is specifically devised so that the future university student may be informed about and directly test the entrance requirements needed by the four universities in Veneto, each of them with its own different curricula. In fact, each university of Veneto has identified, independently though according to the 42 degree classes as specified in the reform, a number of different knowledge levels that are necessary to students to be enrolled. For each faculty of the four universities, some multiple-choice tests will be available and give an idea of the initial qualification required to those wishing to enrol, pass the admission test and successfully finish a degree programme included in the faculties of the following universities:

  • University of Padua
  • Ca' Foscari University of Venice
  • IUAV University of Venice
  • University of Verona.
